BVIS Goes to the OR | Elizabeth Andreas (Education Designer & Polisher), Steven Hughes (Project Manager, 3D & 2D Asset Creator), & Patrick Price (Programmer, 2D Assets & UI Creator)

Programs used: Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Audition, 3DS Max, Substance Designer, Unity 3D with  Virtual Reality Tool Kit (VRTK)

Audience: Biomedical Visualization (BVIS) Graduate Students 

Purpose: BVIS second-year students observe and sketch in the operating room as part of the Clinical Sciences curriculum. This virtual reality simulation created for the HTC Vive orients and trains students so they are prepared, knowledgable, and confident entering the surgical unit for the first time. The simulation allows students to explore and complete objectives such as obtaining scrubs, navigating to correct operating rooms, respecting requirements for various restricted areas, and identifying hospital personnel.
